Today Wanda and I went to the Biosphere 2. It is now owned by the University of Arizona and its main purpose is to study climate change and the effects of water of lack of it on our world which is Biosphere 1.
Originally built as a closed artificial ecological system to study the possibility of surviving on what could be produced by the group living in the biosphere. The original test group was sealed in the facility for two years. The experiment was successful on some levels but the eight members of the test group had to work long hours and for the first year were hungry. All members of the test group lost weight.
The University of Arizona has owned the facility since 2011 and its mission is to serve as center for research, outreach, teaching and lifelong learning about earth.
