Victoria

We visited Victoria's Chinatown today. It is Canada's oldest settled in 1858. While we were there we walked down Fan Tan Alley which is Canada's narrowest street and has little shops all along it.

We drove along the scenic Beach Drive and saw some wind serfers as well as some beautiful views.

We then continued up toward Sydney and Swartz Bay, across to Deep Cove and Patricia Bay where we stopped for a short break and then back to Crofton, after a stop at Mad Dog Crab where we picked up some Cowichan Bay scallops for supper. There is nothing that can compare to fresh scallops.

Chemainus

Chemainus is a unique little town that has chosen to depict its history on the walls of the town's buildings in the form of murals. The murals consist of more than 40 comissioned works of art by various artists, some from as far away as Edinburg, Scotland, the Bahamas and Lafayette, Louisiana. The murals truly are incredible and attract many tourists each year.

Molly and I went to Chemainus yesterday but forgot the camera so we returned today to take some pictures.

Port Renfrew BC

We went to Port Renfrew today via Lake Cowichan. We were initially unsure of what the road would be like since it is a logging road but were pleasntly surprised. It was narrow in places but was paved the whole way. We arrived in Port Renfrew and then worked our way down the coast through Sooke, Victoria and then north again to Crofton. It was a great day and we got to see some lovely sights.

This big beautiful tree is the Harris Creek Spruce and yes it is huge.

We stopped along the way to see the Red Creek Fir, which is one of the largest Douglas Fir trees in Canada.

Just south of Port Renfrew at River Jordan we stopped for a stroll on the beach. The waves wern't very big but there was a surfer out there playing in the water. Molly and I had a good walk on the beach while David had a rest.

Salt Spring Island BC

Here we are about to board the ferry headed for Salt Spring Island and a day of adventure.

We collected some Salt Spring Island dollars (yes they have their own legal tender), spotted a small island just off shore that we would love to live on, saw many sheep farms and yes even saw this Daisy Hill People Farm (we were afraid to go in).

The road up to the Mt. Maxwell Viewpoint was pretty steep in places but the view was well worth it.

We saw deer along the highway and wild daffodils.

This is St. Paul's Catholic church in Fulford. It was built in 1809 with the volunteer help of Hawaiians and their First Nations Famlies who contributed to the construction.

Duncan BC

We visited Duncan today. It is supposed to have 80 totem poles and although we didn't see all of them we did do the totem walk and saw some of them. The round building that you see is the court building and law offices. I thought it looked pretty unusual. We had a great day and were back in time for happy hour!

Crofton, Vancouver Island BC

We have arrived at Osborne Bay Resort. It is located in Crofton on Vancouver Island. It is a pretty nice place and has a board walk that goes along the seawall. I love the fact that I can sit and watch the ferry coming and going to Saltspring Island. It is a dog friendly park and although could use some TLC and cleaning up is overall OK. I must say that the view is great as you can see.
